MUARA, Monday, 24 October 2022 – KDB DARULEHSAN set sail to embark on a 25-day deployment to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2022 which will be held in Yokosuka, Japan. The IFR will be conducted on 6th November 2022, held in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) and the 18th West Pacific Naval Symposium, a multilateral platform for navies of the western pacific.
Present as the Guest of Honour for the send-off ceremony was First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Seruji, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN). Also present were RBN officers, other ratings and also the family members of the deployed personnel. The ceremony began with a recital of the Doa by Muhammad Sabqi bin Nasar, RBN Religious Teacher and concluded as they bid farewell to their families.
KDB DARULEHSAN is captained by Commander Saiful Hazril bin Ali, who will be leading the Brunei contingent comprising 71 personnel including the ship's officers, crew and attachments including the medical officer, religious officer and Naval Surface Action Group (NAVSAG) personnel.
IFR 2022 is expected to involve a total of 37 ships from various. Royal Brunei Navy’s involvement in this event marks an important milestone in the enhancement of the relationship between Brunei and Japan as this marks the first time RBN has deployed one of her assets to Japan.
This multilateral event plays an important role as a vital platform in giving opportunities for the professional development of all navies involved, which in turn foster friendships at all levels. Participating navies will have several interaction programmes before the actual day consisting of courtesy calls, city parades, workshops, operations discussions, professional exchanges, recreational and entertainment events as well as sports interactions.
